Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.
Reviews
Emanuela's place is amazing! My wife and I both agree that it has been our favorite AirBnB that we have stayed at so far. The cabin was a real rustic experience, complete with a stunning view of one of the many beautiful Yorkshire valleys. On our first night, Emanuela made us homemade pizza, which we enjoyed with our amazing view. On the second night, we cooked a meal in the dutch oven over the fire, which was a really fun experience as well. During the day, we enjoyed some nice walks in the area, recommended by Emanuela and her lovely partner Karen. Each morning, Emanuela and Karen brought us breakfast, which included incredible homemade bread. It was nice having morning chats with both of them. They are both super friendly and made sure that we always had what we needed. We will definitely go back!
This is a gem of a property. The owners are very welcoming and have added many lovely touches to enhance your experience of staying there. The cabin is warm and cosy with a deck to sit on providing views across the valley of Swaledale. We accepted the offer of home made pizza in the evening which was well worth the extra charge and was delivered to our door with a glass of red wine. The passive showers work perfectly well as does the composting loo. We thoroughly recommend this place.
Emanuela and Karen were wonderful hosts! The cabin was clean, cosy, and well decorated and they made sure we had everything we needed. The views from the picnic area are absolutely gorgeous! Eating Emanuela's delicious homemade pizza with wine and those views was spetacular. They gave great suggestions for hiking in the area as well! We would love to stay with them again.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and tucked away in a gorgeously quiet part of the Dales. Emma and Karen were perfect hosts, and couldn’t have been more accommodating - helping us out with a lift when the weather scuppered our walking plans. We can also highly recommend the pizza. Would definitely stay again.
