Adjacent to the Coast To Coast, The Pennine Way, The Swale Trail and The Herriot Way
Crackpot Cottage is the ideal place to experience the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
There is plenty to do, walk and cycle in Swaledale but if you fancy going a little further afield we are only 30/40 minutes away from very renowned sites in Wensleydale such as Castle Bolton, Penhill, Aysgarth Falls, Wensleydale Creamery, Hawes, Hardraw Force and Jervaulx Abbey.
We are a family-run smallholding. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and our hens provide us with fresh eggs daily.
We have two glamping venues in our grounds.
Situated in a small hamlet between Reeth and Gunnerside, we are surrounded by the most stunning Swaledale walks, including the renowned Muker - Keld circular and Gunnerside Gill. A gentle evening stroll from Crackpot Cottage will also take you to the outstanding Crackpot Falls or Summer Lodge cave and tarn.
For walkers and cyclists and all of our guests if requested we are able to provide extras services such as packed lunches, safe indoor bike storage, e-bikes battery charging and pick up/drop off.
Staying with us is not only a choice of accommodation but a unique and special off grid experience!

Log Cabin - Off Grid Wild Glamping
The log cabin sleeps 2. Compost toilet and basic washing facilities are outside next to the cabin in a small secluded woodland.
The cabin has exclusive use of the picnic area just adjacent, which has a fire-pit/barbeque to satisfy any cooking needs glamping style!

Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.

Do yourself a favor and stay here! Emma and Karen are the best AirBnB hosts you could ever hope for. They are full of awesome tips for walks nearby and good restaurants to visit and things to do. I honestly don’t know how we would have planned our days out without their advice. If you are into walking, this location is great. You can walk out their door and go on a great 6 mile hike with amazing views, and otherwise, you are central to the most dramatic and beautiful parts of the Dales to go visit. Every morning, we were greeted with an amazing breakfast (the full English breakfast was better than what we had in London at a place that was supposed to have the best full English breakfast in the city). The bread is always homemade, there are a range of homemade condiments, the eggs are from the backyard, and the sausage and bacon are fantastic. The homemade condiments are stellar and the homemade ketchup is the best ketchup I have ever had. We ended up canceling our second reservation in Masham so we could stay longer at Crackpot Cottage and 5 days was nowhere near long enough! The suite is nice and private with a separate bathroom and a curtain separating the suite from the hallway. I cannot say enough great things about the Crackpot cottage or about how wonderful Emma and Karen were! The value for the nightly fee is incredible, and your money will be well spent staying here during your trip to the Dales. Pro Tip: type Crackpot into your GPS and it should take you right where you need to go
Friendly and relaxed hosts with a really beautiful cabin to stay in. We chose not to have a fire at the fire pit this time (a bit wet and windy for us) but the set up was brilliant and I'd love to head back to make use of that another time. I didn't tell my boyfriend where we were staying and when he saw the cabin he was completely blown away. It's all very attractively decorated, it's all brand new and super clean and tidy. We just stayed one night but we could easily have stayed a few days with some books and enjoying the incredible views. Breakfast was delicious with homemade (!!!) ketchup. A wonderfully relaxing retreat, if you want to escape it all then this is the place to run away to!
Emanuela was the perfect host. Communication was polite and very prompt. We were made very welcome and our room was great. The breakfast was lovely and the eggs from the chickens in the garden and home made bread made it even more special. The location was awesome as was the view from the window. A really nice lady and a wonderful home. Highly recommend
