Crackpot Cottage is the ideal place to experience the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
There is plenty to do, walk and cycle in Swaledale but if you fancy going a little further afield we are only 30/40 minutes away from very renowned sites in Wensleydale such as Castle Bolton, Penhill, Aysgarth Falls, Wensleydale Creamery, Hawes, Hardraw Force and Jervaulx Abbey.
We are a family-run smallholding. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and our hens provide us with fresh eggs daily.
We have two glamping venues in our grounds.
Situated in a small hamlet between Reeth and Gunnerside, we are surrounded by the most stunning Swaledale walks, including the renowned Muker - Keld circular and Gunnerside Gill. A gentle evening stroll from Crackpot Cottage will also take you to the outstanding Crackpot Falls or Summer Lodge cave and tarn.
For walkers and cyclists and all of our guests if requested we are able to provide extras services such as packed lunches, safe indoor bike storage, e-bikes battery charging and pick up/drop off.

Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.
Reviews
Hey! If your reading this review! Just book it! It will be the best time you would ever have! As it definitely was ours!! The view is just as the pictures and I feel like they do not do it the full justice it really deserves! The fire pit and picnic area is amazing! We spent most of our time out there, even using the cast iron pot for cooking. The cabin is really cozy and and fire really does warm it up on the cold evenings!! The gardens are so well kept and lovely to walk through: they blend really well with the dales. Emma and Karen are just the most amazing people we have stumbled across. They are extremely kind, lovely and welcoming. On the couple of occasions which we had to pester them, not once did they make me feel as if we was putting them out of their way. Really good to have a chat with and give really good advice! On everything from local walks, to pizza dough!!! Talking of pizza’s! Well, if you do go and don’t try one of the pizza’s which they make at home, I do not feel you will have the full experience! They’re just delicious! As I’ve previously said, if your reading reviews to see what this place is like, take my word for it and just book it. You will have the best time and if there’s any gaps, Emma and Karen are always ready to give a help in hand! Oh just before I finish! Breakfast is amazing! Home made bread, locally sourced bacon and their own free range chickens for eggs! You really do not get much fresher! I can not wait to go again! Massive thank you to the both of them!
Well where do I start!? Quirky accomodation! If you want fantastic views and beautiful home made Italian cuisine this is the place for you!dont bother cooking!stayed here when the sun was shining! Fantastic homemade bruschetta and pizza I would definitely recommend! Accommodation fine for us, we were not bothered that the showers were cold, or the camping type facilities as this is right up our street!(without the tent of course!) we were not cold at all! We brought our own camping lanterns and torches added to the ones provided so this was fine!! Then before leaving we had a good amount of yorkshire tea with a bacon butty (with Emmualeas homemade tomatoe sauce and bread!) also location beautiful just a stroll down the road and you have some magnificent waterfalls!!thanks again!
Emanuela & Karen were incredible hosts and the cottage itself is a gorgeous home with lots of character. It was extremely clean and we highly recommend anyone takes advantage of their dine in offer (pizza & wine for £10) as it is home made and their dining room is a lovely setting in which to dine for an evening. The hosts were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable about the area and approachable - we've done many Air BnBs and you'll struggle to find two nicer people. We will definitely go back if we are in the area.
Many thanks to both you Ema, and Karen, for making us feel so welcome. We wish we had been able to stay for longer! The homemade food was delicious, just amazing - thank you. You have definitely found your niche, wonderfully attentive hosts, great accommodation, very friendly and a great sense of humour - what more could any guests ask for? We had a wonderful stay and would love to return someday to share that bottle of wine! Take good care of yourselves. Gill & Stuart xx
