Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.
Reviews
Fabulous couple of days, great experience, great food, great coffee, great wine, just a lovely space in which to relax with fantastic hosts.
This is a really beautiful part of the country to stay in and the fact you get the views when staying here is an excellent bonus. Hosts were really friendly and helpful. The place was easy to find. The cabin was really cosy and had a great nights sleep. Being able to have a little fire, a few glasses of wine and enjoy the Yorkshire dales was really excellent. The food on offer here is definitely worth the cost, brilliantly presented and tastes as good as it looks. Would 100% come back again!
Beautiful, traditional cottage right in the heart of the dales ! I would recommend anyone who wants a few nights away to stay in this cosy spot! The hosts are the kindest friendliest people you could wish to meet ! And the cottage and it’s log burners are just a total dream for any walkers or people wanting to explore what this fantastic part of the north east has to offer.
A cosy cottage in the middle of beautiful Swaledale where you can eat delicious homemade pizza and drink wine next to a fire ... what more could you want? We loved our stay at Crackpot cottage. The cottage itself is lovely with lots of character much like its hosts, Ema and Karen. There are endless walks to keep you busy throughout the day and Ema is a keen walker so can offer many suggestions depending on what you're looking for. There was only one bad thing about our stay at Crackpot cottage: we had to leave
