Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.
Reviews
A delightful place to stay with two very warm, friendly and helpful hosts. The barn was beautifully converted, and once the fire was lit it was super-cosy in the evenings. The bed was warm and comfortable and the food (breakfast of delicious home-made bread and jam and evening meal of wonderful home-made pizza) was excellent. I spent most of my time in the pretty little garden, reading in the sunshine, but Emanuela had suggestions of walks nearby too. The location is so beautiful; quiet and rural with lovely views. I can't fault this place. Loved it.
Thank you so much to both Emanuela and Karen! They were such lovely hosts that were so thoughtful and went the extra mile. Both the hosts and the cabin were full of information that were really helpful with our travels. Amazing food, fantastic views and a super cosy night by the fire!
We stayed at Crackpot Cottage for our 10th wedding anniversary and this was the first time we have used air bnb so wasn’t sure what to expect but we needn’t have worried. From greeting us at the door Emanuela and Karen were so welcoming and happy for us to share their home. We enjoyed a pizza all homemade and a glass of wine on our first evening and the breakfast the next day was delicious also with homemade bread and ketchup. We were given advice on the best places to visit, local walks and where to eat which was really helpful. The room was lovely and clean, fresh towels, toiletries and anything else you need was all provided, our hosts were happy for us to come and go as we pleased, very accommodating. The location was wonderful, nice and peaceful which is what we were looking for and you can get to the nearest village within 10 minutes by car. A beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales and such amazing hosts, would highly recommend Crackpot Cottage.
This was an absolutely stunning stay. The hosts were incredible, the cabin is beautiful and the property/garden/views and fire pit are sensational. This is experiencing Yorkshire in all its glory. The pizza, cheese board and breakfast were awesome with lots of home made/home grown produce used. Genuinely can’t fault this place. Great value, great hosts and will look to stay again! Thank you!
