Green Living
At Crackpot Cottage we spend much of our time finding ways to be as self sufficient as possible, whilst keeping mother nature happy.
And so we build and dig and plant and harvest, and return what we don't need for ourselves back to the land (or give it to the hens!).
We have plenty to keep us busy, rain or shine (mostly rain!), whatever the season such as:
vegetable garden
fruit trees
hens
lots of flower beds and lawns
plenty of hedges and natural fencing
composting
and the list goes on.......
Here we share with you our triumphs and failures, and all the hard work and attention our land needs.
Reviews
Thank you for a wonderful stay here. The food was delicious and the amenities were great with lovely views and fire pit area to enjoy dinner watching the sunset. Emanuela gave us recommendations of hikes, wild swimming spots and things to do which was so helpful. Would really recommend this place.
We spent a night in one of the cabins at Crackpot Cottage to break up a long driving trip to Leeds. The weather was too dismal to be able to sit out and enjoy a camp fire, but we were warm and cosy in the cabin with wine and great pizza provided by the hosts. Luckily we were able to enjoy a fine breakfast outside in the morning, with some time to take in the beautiful scenery and say hello to the lovely chickens. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
We loved our stay at the cabin! Emanuela and Karen were so helpful with recommendations and the food was delicious. There are nice walks to do around the area and the views of the dales are amazing, especially the riverside walk to Reeth. Definitely recommend staying here for anyone looking to find somewhere peaceful and relaxing, perfect escapism!
Emanuela, your place was idyllic. 100% would recommend to anyone who needs a peaceful break from their normal life. I had real difficulty finding the place but this is completely my own fault, all instructions were sent and well communicated but as a warning to future guests the signal is ideal for getting away from normal busy life but not very good if you completely forget the lovely instructions you very kind host has sent you in advance of turning up. My advice... remember to read all the emails and communication thoroughly before setting off. The perfect get away at a fantastic price!
